Javelin new-store radar for Taipei

Key findings

Javelin's new-store radar uses business-tax registration records, which appear earlier than Google Maps listings. Taipei had 448 new restaurant registrations in the last 90 days:

  • Concentrated in three districts: Daan 82, Zhongshan 71 and Songshan 44, together 197 or 44%. Then Zhengzhong 41, Wanhua 36, Xinyi 33, Neihu 30 and Shilin 27.
  • Restaurants and noodle shops dominate: 172 restaurants and 119 noodle or snack shops make 291, about 65%. Beverage shops 31, lunch-box and buffet 28, bubble-tea shops 26, cafes 24, breakfast shops 22 and food stalls 14.
  • Mostly small, some large: 158 are companies (35%) and 74 have capital of NT$1 million or more (about 17%).
  • Most have no reliable Google Maps match: 307 (about 69%), which may mean not yet open or a registered name that differs from the shop sign.

Reading it correctly

  1. Registration is not opening. Treat the list as leads to verify.
  2. Capital is not a fit-out budget.
  3. No match does not mean the shop does not exist. Javelin links to Google Maps only when the match is strong enough.

How to use the list

  • Food, equipment, POS, payment and insurance sales: new venues buy and set up services around opening, so earlier contact wins more deals. Start with Daan, Zhongshan and Songshan, then sort by trade and capital for a weekly call list.
  • Landlords and agents: see where new venues cluster to gauge space demand.
  • Founders: crowded categories show demand and also growing competition. Check new rivals around your spot on the competition map.
